What is Porphyry?
The name porphyry comes from the Greek word which means “purple color”. It is a general term for igneous rock with large distinct crystals in a fine grained, usually crimson colored, base. The composition is mostly acid (rich in quartz) and as a rule, is made up of feldspar.
